Seasonal Computing Broadcasts #01

Date: Friday, 18th of September 2026
Time: 10:30-12:00 CEST
Tune in: Varia Narrowcast

For the last few years, Varia has been exploring the concept, practice and implementation of Seasonal Computing. The term stems from a conversation during a session of A Traversal Network of Feminist Servers (ATNOFS) in 2022, and asks what were to happen if computers were to be aligned with seasons and other circular rhythms found in the world around us. What if we were to move away from always on, constant availability, and to a way of working that finds ebbs and flows with the environmental conditions we find ourselves in.

As we come towards the end of our third year of exploration in relation to this theme, we (Varia) would like to look back at what happened as we attempt to practice Seasonal Computing as a collective. Has it changed the way we work? What complications and compromises have we made along the way? Have we learned anything from this process at all?

We will sit down with a group of Varia members for a conversation to figure out what happened and how we feel about the concept of computing in relation to the seasons. Tune in via stream.vvvvvvaria.org to find out.
